Since its inception in the mid-1990's the East West Rail scheme has gone through many interations in order to refine and develop the concept of a new strategic railway linking East Anglia with Central, Southern and Western England.
There have been a total of nine detailed studies looking at the transport, land use and operational aspects of the scheme and several bids for funding have been submitted to Government and the rail industry in recent years.
