The West End of East West Rail breaks down into 4 main elements for construction: Bletchley-Claydon, Claydon- Bicester, Claydon- Aylesbury and Bicester-Oxford.
Using a staged section-by-section programmed of works, individual sections would be closed temporarily. Due to the fact that all elements of the work can be carried out without the normal constraints of working on a busy operational railway, the risks to both cost and programme are significantly reduced. Once the scheme has been given the go ahead a contractor could complete the works within 30 months, thereby enabling transport infrastructure to be completed and services to be running before housing growth comes on stream. This is of fundamental importance when trying to facilitate modal shift.
The Western section of East West Rail presents a unique opportunity for a "quick-win" in delivering a key element of public transport to one of the major growth areas in the South East in a short time demonstrating integrated delivery.
